Our first fundraiser was for Steve Joseph.  He was our daughter's friend from high school.  She had a fundraiser for him in Washington, we had one for him here, his home town.  He had been in a very bad car accident during the 2 weeks that he was between jobs.  Consequently, he had no health insurance.  He was living in Arizona so he became a ward of that state in order to get the care that he needed.  He had a brain stem injury. Today, 2017, Steve is still a ward of the state, still in a nursing home, unable to communicate or control his body in any way.  But he is in there, you can tell by his eyes.  Our fundraiser raised the money for some of the things he needs that the state does not provide, like dental care as an example.
